现任自然资源部第一海洋研究所地质室主任、自然资源部海洋地质与成矿作用重点实验室主任、青岛海洋试点国家实验室海洋地质作用过程与环境功能实验室主任、中国大洋样品馆馆长。主要从事海洋沉积和海底成矿作用研究,已发表论文400余篇(其中SCI论文180余篇)、专著3部,主持完成国家级项目和省部级项目30余项,担任多个航次首席科学家。先后获省部级科技奖励10余项,获全国优秀科技工作者、国家百千万人才工程、泰山学者攀登计划等荣誉称号10余项。主要科研成果包括:(1)对中国海及亚洲大陆边缘沉积地质学开展了系统研究,主编了多种比例尺沉积物类型图,发起实施了“亚洲大陆边缘源-汇过程与陆海相互作用”国际合作项目,实现了对亚洲大陆边缘从北极陆架到孟加拉湾的底质调查研究,使我国成为目前国际上唯一系统拥有这一广阔海区样品和资料的国家,初步阐述了亚洲大陆边缘沉积物“源-汇”过程和机制;(2)在国内率先开展了深海稀土资源调查研究,在全球划分出4个深海富稀土成矿带,首次在中印度洋海盆和东南太平洋发现大面积富稀土沉积,评估了全球深海稀土资源潜力;(3)领导团队在南大西洋开展了热液硫化物调查研究,预测发现了南大西洋中脊大范围热液成矿区,提出了我国南大西洋热液硫化物调查靶区。

主要从事海洋沉积和海底成矿作用研究,已发表论文500余篇,出版专著3部,曾担任多个大型海洋科考航次首席科学家。
