现任自然资源部第一海洋研究所所长兼党委书记。主要从事海洋地质与环境研究,已发表论文300余篇,其中SIC/EI论文160余篇,SCI论文他引1500余次;出版中文专著2部,英文专著1部;申请专利3项;主持国家重点研发计划项目、国家自然科学基金重点项目、国家“全球变化与海气相互作用”专项项目、国家“973”项目(课题)、中科院战略先导专项项目等课题30余项。先后获海洋工程科学技术奖一等奖、中国科学院杰出科技成就奖、海洋工程科学技术奖特等奖、国家海洋局海洋创新成果奖一、二等奖、海洋优秀科技图书奖等奖项10余项。主要科研成果包括:以印度洋-西太平洋暖池(以下简称印-太暖池)为靶区,通过现代监测与历史重建相结合、模拟结果与指标记录相验证的策略,查明古海洋环境演化过程与机制、建立现代海洋环境安全保障技术、构建深海环境探测体系,从而揭示印-太暖池在过去全球变化和现代社会发展中的作用机理。近年来,以国家战略需求为导向,以核心科学问题为牵引,作为负责人实施了一系列重大项目(工程)。实施4项国家自然科学基金重点项目或联合基金项目,丰富了气候变化的“热带驱动”理论,奠定了我国在西太暖池过去全球变化研究领域的优势地位。实施国家重大科技基础设施“海洋科学综合考察船”工程(作为副总经理)和中国科学院战略先导专项项目“深海海洋环境与特殊生态系统”,构建了国际先进的深海探测与技术体系,引领了西太平洋深海极端环境与生命过程研究,奠定了我国深海科学研究的国际地位。
